 What curriculum will the school follow?

 

GIIS Kuala Lumpur is the only school in Malaysia to offer two internationally acclaimed curricula –Cambridge IGCSE  and the CBSE. The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum will be introduced from the session starting January, 2012
GIIS KL also offers the Global Montessori Plus Programme at KG level.

Is the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum offered at all class levels?

The Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) will be offered from Classes 1 to 7 during  the session commencing January, 2012.Cambridge IGCSE will be offered for Classes 8 to 10 from August,2012. Furthermore, the A-levels for Classes 11 and 12 will be added in August 2013.

When does the  school's academic year start?

The school academic year commences in August. However, for the coming year,  for students entering the Cambridge curriculum classes 1 to 7 , the session will commence in January,2012. CBSE session starts in April each year.

What is the fee structure for the Cambridge curriculum?

Do you provide transport for children?

Yes, GIIS provides school buses

What are the age criteria for classes  KG and class 1?

 

For K1: 3+ years as on 31st March of the relevant year.
For K2: 4+ years as on 31st March of the relevant year.
For class 1:  5+ years as on 31st March of the relevant year

What will be the student-teacher ratio in the class?

For K1 and K2, there is a maximum of 24 students in each class.
Both the above classes will have a full time teacher with a part time assistant teacher.
For Class 1 onwards, the maximum number of children per class is 28.

How many terms will the school have?

We have three terms of four months each for fee payment . For academic achievement reporting, we have  four terms of three months each in an academic year.

What are the school timings?

 

School timings are as follows:
For Kindergarten : 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
For Classes 1 and above: 8:00 am to 2:30 pm

Is it a bag-less school?

 

Children need to carry books to the school as per the time table for the day. The school retains some of the workbooks and notebooks of children , which they can carry home for the weekends.

Will children be given homework?

Home work is an integral part of the middle and senior school curriculum and serves to further reinforce what has been taught in class. However in primary school curriculum, homework will be very  minimal and not stressful.

Will there be any enrichment classes in school?

Yes, enrichment classes are a part of the time-table.

What options will the school offer for the third language (CBSE)?

A ‘three language programme’ is a feature of all GIIS campuses. We offer a choice of five  languages as a third language:  :Hindi , French, Tamil, Sanskrit and Mandarin. Apart from doing a chosen second language (Hindi, Bahasa,Tamil and French) , the student must choose one of the above third languages and study from classes  5 to 8.

Will the school encourage inter house, inter school competitions?

GIIS has a host of activities as part of the GIIS 9-Gems Model, which facilitates holistic development. Inter-house, Inter-school and International level competitions will focus on bringing out the potential of every child.

Will the school take students for educational excursions?

 

Yes. Excursions and educational trips are a part of the active learning process in GIIS campuses. These will be organised on a regular basis as indicated on the school calendar. Field trips are integral part of learning at GIIS.

Will day boarding facility be provided?

As of now, the school does not provide day boarding facilities; however we could look into this option in the future.

Will meals be provided to children?

 

We have a cafeteria, where students can buy food, such as sandwiches, snacks and drinks.

What sports facilities will the school provide?

With a firm focus on holistic education, sports is an integral part of the curriculum at GIIS campuses. GIIS KL has world-class facilities for tennis, table tennis, badminton , basketball etc.,, among others.

Will the school celebrate all festivals?

As an International school, with over 52 nationalities worldwide, GIIS encourages students to understand and appreciate all cultures through regular activities and celebrations, as part of the school calendar. All occasions of celebration are given equal importance without any discrimination.

20 What first aid will you provide in school in case of any casualty?

Upon admission, every parent must submit a duly filled in medical form available with school office .In keeping with international standards, an in-house medical nurse is available throughout the school hours, to attend to all minor injuries and medical emergencies. For major emergencies, the student will be taken to the nearby hospital and parents will be informed simultaneously.

Will the school cater to children with special needs?

The school does admit children who have borderline learning needs and an in-house behavioural counsellor, for addressing minor learning and behavioural needs.

Are there regular workshops and training for teachers at GIIS KL?

Teacher training is given a high degree of importance at all GIIS campuses, and all teachers are given a minimum of 80 hours of training in one year.

How often will there be PTM’s?
